The model layer is designed to run on self-hosted open weights rather than Lovable, OpenAI, Anthropic or Perplexity APIs. It uses a compound workflow — planner, local evidence retrieval, planning specialist, commercial specialist, evidence critic and final synthesiser — while the deterministic planning and calculator engines remain available even if the model service is offline.

The postcode planning checker tests Class AA, roof/extension permitted development, Part 20, Class MA and full-planning routes, plus street-scene design, live constraints and local/national policy sources.
What the independent engine does
- Plans the research questions before drafting an answer.
- Retrieves relevant material from the platform's own versioned knowledge corpus.
- Runs separate planning, commercial and evidence-audit passes.
- Uses a final synthesis pass to reconcile conflicts and expose assumptions.
- Falls back visibly to deterministic logic if the self-hosted model is offline.
AI is an interpretation layer, not the legal or planning source of truth. Proposal-specific permitted-development and planning-policy conclusions belong in the postcode planning checker, where current rules, live constraint data and source links are shown. When the self-hosted model service is unavailable, this page switches visibly to the deterministic fallback rather than pretending a model generated the result.
